Ivans choice of "The Laughing Policeman" by Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo was very well received with a score of 7.4 putting it in the top scorers of all time. Several people, myself included, commenting that they actually intend to read it again soon, to take in the finer details missed reading it too quickly.
The first meeting of next year will be held at the cherry tree on the 21st of January where we will discuss Marita and Elinors suggestion "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn.
Here's a quick outline stolen from Wikipedia.
Gone Girl is a contemporary thriller novel by American writer Gillian Flynn. Crown Publishing Group published the novel in June 2012 and it soon made the New York Times Best Seller list. The novel's principal suspense comes from an uncertainty about the main character, Nick Dunne, and whether he killed his wife, Amy Dunne.
In several interviews, Flynn has said that she was interested in exploring the psychology and dynamics of a long-term relationship. In portraying her principal characters who are out-of-work writers, she made use of her own experience being laid off from her job as a writer for Entertainment Weekly.
Critics throughout the English-speaking world and particularly the United States positively received and reviewed the novel. Reviewers praised the novel's use of unreliable narration, plot twists, and suspense. Some reviewers feel it straddles the boundary between genre fiction and literary fiction.
At the next meeting we would like to discuss alternative methods for reading matter to replace the current genres. Any suggestions most welcome.
Also, If you would like to pitch a book to be read for February's meeting the theme will be "your own personal book of the year" Any book you read last year that greatly impressed you.
